What a replacement actually involves

A few signs tell you the fixing conversation is over:

It is the position: cylinders boxed into stairwell landings, bolted to balcony walls, or wedged under staircases where the installer clearly had a better day than the person removing them.

Narrow stairwells and shared foyers are ordinary parts of this job, not surprises. The same planning applies to gravity: a cylinder letting go on an upper level dumps water through everything below it. An end-of-life tank in a bad position is worth replacing on your timetable rather than its own.

Buildings near Strzelecki Lookout, and anything with a harbour-facing balcony, sit in salt spray off the Tasman for most of the year. Outdoor cylinders and continuous flow units corrode faster in that air than the same unit would inland.
